Luckily in my state, we don't have this kind of controversy because I'm happy if I can get my students to read anything (comic books, magazines, and books I can find to interest them). Sounds like people need to run for office and overturn this school board!loonyhikerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05378360383088143368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13426874.post-42938922540274562092007-11-02T16:51:00.000-07:002007-11-02T16:51:00.000-07:00"...students are given a specific criteria/task......"...students are given a specific criteria/task..."<BR/><BR/>"Criteria" is PLURAL, "criterion" is singular. The whole point behind the types of policies you discuss is to remove the ability of individual teachers to make decisions about content. Of course, the reaction is caused, to some extent, because individual teachers have previously failed to exercise their judgment in a way that resulted in students being educated. <BR/><BR/>In short, teachers are being turned, at best, into "classroom facilitators," (yeah, I meant the term to have little meaning) or at worst, mindless cyborgs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
